Real-Time Seismic Monitoring (RSM)

KMIDam RSM performs automated structural assessments to provide continuous information, rapid notifications and state of health reports by leveraging a combination of smart sensing technology and predictive engineering computations. KMIDam RSM detects local or regional seismic events and delivers real-time information to understand the potential impact of earthquakes on the dams and their facilities, enabling efficient earthquake emergency response. 

Automated Event Reporting (AER) 

KMIDam AER puts a comprehensive set of reporting tools under the control of operators and dam engineers. During an earthquake or other event, KMIDam detects structural motion and automatically provides alerts on the exceedance of design or site-specific parameters, such as for Operating Basis Earthquake (OBE) or Safety Evaluation Earthquake (SEE), for an immediate understanding of the possible impact on the dam.
Information from sensors and real-time calculations provide actionable information on the level of impact, and the required response steps. Decision-making is simplified and guesswork is eliminated by immediate access to critical information tailored to the unique aspects of your specific dam. 

Long-Term SHM & Digital Twin (LTM)

KMIDam LTM delivers a continuous ambient vibration monitoring system and digital twin technology to provide a reliable stream of data for long-term structural health monitoring and to support data-driven decision making throughout the lifespan of the dam.


Operational Modal Analysis is used to automatically estimate the main modal parameters of the dam, which are correlated with reservoir level and thermal variations, operational conditions, and more for dam performance assessment. The evolution of natural frequencies is monitored over time and compared with reference values or predictive models to track the potential gradual degradation of the dam’s structural condition and trigger preventive maintenance or inspection when required.

Digital Twins are also used to track the behavior of the dam over time. These models are continually updated by data collected by the long-term vibration monitoring system and other sensors. By leveraging digital twins, KMIDam delivers access to a realistic digital replica for immersive dam visualization and to view historical digital records. Simulations of normal operating conditions and event-related stressors are used to characterize the expected behavior of the dam. Discrepancies between the expected behavior and the measured performance of the physical dam may indicate damage or vulnerabilities.

By measuring performance over time, the lifespan of the structure can be better understood, and potential failure mechanisms can be identified early, enabling appropriate preventative measures to be taken. 

Multi-Asset Command & Control System (CCS)
